Directions to Kestrel Cottage in Little Harbour, Abaco
Firstly. Remember to drive on the left hand side here!
- From the MHH airport rotary take the 4th possible exit onto the Ernest Dean Highway which will head you south down the island. Note: There have been some problems with bumps in the road on roughly the first third of it that you will be transiting. It’s worse on the northbound side but take your time going either direction till it smooths out.
- Follow this highway once on it for approximately 16.7km or 10.4 miles.
- Turn left onto the Cherokee Road (you’ll see flagpoles on the right) which starts as a long straightaway but will soon become very windy. This is also an asphalt road and people often travel too fast on it so please take your time and drive defensively.
- Follow this road for 13.4km or 8.3 miles
- Turn left onto the Little Harbour Road. This is a dirt road and currently in pretty good shape as it was just filled and groomed over the last few days. Like Cherokee Road it is very windy, can be muddy/slippery in rain and sometimes has the same problem of folks driving too fast on it. Again please take your time.
- Follow Little Harbour Road for 3.4km or 2.1 miles till you come to the harbour and eventually see Pete’s Pub on the right. The pub and community have installed speed bumps of thick rope and partially buried pilings to keep driving speeds to a crawl. You’ll see why as often (depending on your arrival time) you’ll be driving right through the middle of a wonderful party! There is also a strong concern for children as Pete’s is a very family friendly establishment. Once here you are in the home stretch to the cottage!
- Pass the Pub and follow the same road past a small stone roundabout and Johnston Studios (the foundry) on your left. You’ll now be on a very sandy road that curls around the Little Harbour pond. There will be a hard left and then some hand-painted signs and then you’ll feel like the bush is swallowing the car! 🙂 Take the next possible left (you’ll see a Kestrel Cottage sign) and then follow the road along past two driveways on your right till you see the cottage (and main house driveway) in front of you.
You are welcome to park under the tree right near the cottage or head up the driveway to the parking area near the main house which also has easy access to the cottage.
